Service Learning
Many people learn best by practicing new skills. Most of us, I believe, also perform at our best when we are doing work for others. Service-learning offers students and faculty members the opportunity to deeply engage with questions and knowledge production through conducting a meaningful project for a community partner. I teach several SL classes at the undergraduate and graduate level that employ the "research consultant model."
Several of the service learning courses and their "products" are listed below. Scrappy the Food Waste Mascot in the image to the right was developed as part of a Food Waste public education campaign package the graduate FS 350 Food Systems Immersion graduate students made in Spring 2016. |
